i don’t enjoy being cynical, especially about music like this. and there certainly is a healing and softness factor. but sometimes my greatest friction with Ichiko Aoba is the looseness of her music. as seen with my review of Marginalia III by Masakatsu Takagi, i deliberately enjoy vague and nature based musical endeavors. however, a few birds chirping and a some ghostly lyrics aren’t quite enough for me to call something a song. yes, it’s a “song”, an art piece, but lets ask for a bit more. let’s ask for something more engaging and cohesive. just because something exists does not make it profound.
