cephalo’s new single is a pretty strong convincing factor into the genre of shoegaze. it can be one of my favorite genres and also one of the most overplayed. in this thought, “Bougainvillea” never oversteps and that might be my brightest form of critique on the song. what may be a somewhat run-of-the-mill exposition, it also feels incredibly easy to enjoy. the 4 minute run time never outplays itself and maintains the right amount of enjoyability. in some realms that may be a slight, today, for here, it’s not. “Bougainvillea” has depth and attraction, enough to feel engaging AND passive. a tough juggle.
