Skins (スキンズ) - Asian Kung-Fu Generation

“Skins" is a rather enjoyable and more traditional AKG feeling song, that neither reaches a peak but also has a clear and identifiable feel.
AKG has been out of my mindshare for years now, even though they hold great relevancy and legacy in my history with music. every artist struggles to find new style, voice, meaning and reason as they get on in years. i find it astounding and very respectable that AKG have maintained themselves for so long and continue to explore that path of growth. i commend it.
a song i initially passed over, it’s found some traction with me over the past few weeks. it feels a bit more like their 2010’s work around “Surf Bungaku Kamakura” and “Magic Disk.” energetic and relaxed. the more i listen to it, the more it reminds me of their old sound while still feeling modern and fresh. it’s not a standout track from the band’s articulate history, however i can appreciate what they are working to accomplish. my read is a band enjoying a long-form victory lap that never really needs to end. its rare for a band to stay together this long, and even rarer to achieve this particular maturity. let them keep on. i dig it.
(oh and the track art is so clean. Yusuke Nakamura always, always kills it.)
